WhatsApp is working on new updates that will bring Liquid Glass support to the image editor and video player on the iPhone. These updates will allow WhatsApp to complete the transition to Liquid Glass before the release of iOS 27. In the upcoming update, both the image editor screen and the video player’s progress indicator will support Liquid Glass.

What is it?
In a previous article, we reported that Apple had released Liquid Glass for iOS devices. The chat panel became a floating element with a translucent, glass-like appearance, while the navigation bar became a transparent field with a smooth blur effect. These changes have finally brought the chat screen in line with modern trends, just like other sections of the app where the Liquid Glass design is already in place. Following this update, the chat interface became one of the last major sections to switch to the new look.
What WhatsApp is working on now
The chat interface is far from the final stage of the transition to “Liquid Glass.” WhatsApp continues to refine it, and two more features are in the pipeline for an update. Specifically, WhatsApp is working on a drawing editor and a video player. These new features will provide a consistent Liquid Glass experience throughout the entire app.
- New drawing editor
The drawing editor lets you add annotations or edit photos, videos, and GIFs before sharing them. At the top of this screen, users will find buttons for adding text, drawings, stickers, and more.
WhatsApp is currently working on updating these buttons to match the unified style of iOS 26. This means they’ll become just as translucent and glass-like as other sections of the messenger. At first glance, the change may not seem very noticeable, but ultimately, the image editor will match the visual design of WhatsApp in iOS 26.
- Progress indicator in the video player
The video player is another feature that will be compatible with the Liquid Glass design. When users open a video, a progress indicator showing the playback track will appear at the top of the screen. WhatsApp is currently working on updating this progress indicator so that it keeps pace with the image editor.
As with the latter, this is more of a refinement than a radical redesign of the media player’s appearance. WhatsApp aims to maintain a consistent interface, which means the progress indicator on the video player screen will be the next element to follow this concept.
One design for all
The rollout of Liquid Glass isn’t limited to the iPhone. We’ve also reported that WhatsApp has implemented Liquid Glass in its iPad and Mac apps. Thanks to these updates, as well as improvements to the chat interface, image editor, and video player—which are currently in development—WhatsApp is fully transitioning to the new design across all its apps. Some users may not yet see Liquid Glass on all screens, but given that iOS 27 is just around the corner, it won’t be long before it’s available.
When will they be released?
WhatsApp has been updating its app interface ever since the Liquid Glass concept was introduced in iOS 26. The chat list, the “Updates” tab, the sidebar, and the chat interface—all of these elements have already been updated. At the moment, the image editor and video player still look the same as before. We’ll let you know as soon as they become available.
Conclusion
Apple has made it clear that Liquid Glass is the future of iOS. With iOS 27 on the horizon, apps that haven’t fully transitioned to it yet will look outdated. Consequently, the updates to WhatsApp’s image editor and video player are part of this initiative.
