This week, WhatsApp improved group navigation, brought status updates directly into iOS chats, added document uploads to its AI, launched status updates in channels, replaced its GIF provider Tenor with Klipy, and finally added a “Log Out” button.
Table of Contents
New Group Info Navigation
WhatsApp is introducing a tab system for the group info screen, simplifying access to key sections.
How it will work
The group info screen is divided into three tabs: “Members,” “Media,” and “Settings.” Tapping a tab automatically scrolls to the corresponding section. All settings remain on one screen, but navigation is faster.
Why this is needed
Previously, the group info screen became overly cluttered with too many options. Users had to scroll extensively to find the section they needed. Tabs speed up access and provide a more structured interface.

This feature is currently available to some Android beta testers. It will gradually be available to more users.
Status at the top of the “Chats” tab on iOS
WhatsApp is bringing the horizontal status feed to the top of the “Chats” tab on iOS.
How it will work
When you open the app, contact avatars and statuses appear in the navigation bar (where it usually says “Chats”). Scrolling down the chat list reveals a horizontal row of statuses, which also includes a button to create a new status. The camera button has been removed to reduce visual clutter.
Why this is needed
Allows you to view statuses without switching to the “Updates” tab. Statuses become more prominent, increasing engagement.

This feature is available to some iOS beta testers via TestFlight, as well as to some users from the App Store.
AI-powered document sharing
WhatsApp is adding the ability to send documents to AI-powered chats for analysis and processing.
How it will work
AI-powered chats now have the option to send documents (via the attachment menu or directly from the file manager). AI analyzes the document’s contents and provides answers, solves problems, or provides context. Previously, users had to send screenshots, which limited the AI’s capabilities.
Why this is needed
This brings the built-in AI capabilities on par with competitors who already support document uploads. It simplifies working with long texts, reports, and contracts.

This feature is currently available to some Android beta testers. It will gradually be available to more users.
Channel Statuses
WhatsApp is officially launching the ability for channel administrators to post temporary statuses that disappear after 24 hours.
How it will work
The administrator opens their channel, clicks the create status option, and selects a photo, video, or text. Stickers, edits, and a caption can be added in the editor. After publishing, the status appears in the status feed in the “Updates” tab, labeled “Channel Statuses.” Subscribers can share and like this status.
Why this is needed
Allows you to publish temporary announcements, behind-the-scenes content, or breaking news without cluttering your main feed. It increases engagement through a format familiar to personal statuses.

This feature is currently available to some iOS and Android users. It will gradually become available to more users.
New GIF provider Klipy replaces Tenor
WhatsApp is preparing to replace Tenor with Klipy as its second (alongside GIPHY) GIF provider.
How it will work
Tenor will shut down its API on July 1, 2026. WhatsApp will integrate Klipy, an alternative GIF search service, in advance. Users currently using Tenor will be seamlessly migrated to Klipy without any settings changes. The GIF keyboard will also increase the number of columns from two to three, allowing you to view 50% more GIFs at once.
Why this is needed
Ensures uninterrupted GIF search functionality after disabling Tenor. Load balancing between two providers (GIPHY and Klipy) improves system reliability.
Status
This feature is in development for Android and iOS. The release is expected by July 1, 2026.
Logging out of an account without deleting your data
WhatsApp is finally adding a built-in “Log out” button, which allows you to temporarily disconnect from your account without losing your chat history.
How it will work
A “Log out” option has been added to Settings → “Account.” When you sign out, your chats, media, and login information are saved on your device. When you sign back in, a full setup is not required—the app restores its previous state. Before signing out, WhatsApp offers options: add a second account, enable app lock, customize notifications, or clear storage.
Why this is needed
Previously, the only way to sign out of an account was to uninstall the app, which resulted in the loss of settings and the inconvenience of reinstalling. Users can now pause conversations without losing data.
Status
The feature is available to some Android beta testers. Gradually will be available to more users.
Conclusion
This week, WhatsApp focused on improving navigation, developing artificial intelligence, introducing temporary content in channels, as well as technically replacing the GIF provider and the long-awaited logout button.
