WhatsApp for iOS 26 will receive a new Liquid Glass interface

The WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.19.10.70 has begun testing a new interface built on the Liquid Glass design system, a central element of Apple’s iOS 26. This update is designed to make the app more aesthetically pleasing and intuitive to use.

What is Liquid Glass

Liquid Glass isn’t just a new icon set, but a holistic design approach introduced by Apple in iOS 26. Its goal is to recreate the optical qualities of glass, such as transparency, depth, and reflection.

Interface elements, including backgrounds, buttons, and menus, are given a subtle depth effect that dynamically changes based on lighting, movement, and user interaction. This creates the feeling of the interface being made of fluid, adaptive glass, making interaction with the system more fluid and modern.

How Liquid Glass will transform WhatsApp

The implementation of the new design will require a complete overhaul of WhatsApp’s appearance. As screenshots from the beta version show, the changes will affect key elements of the app.

  • Navigation bar. The bottom bar with the “Chats,” “Status,” and “Calls” tabs will become translucent. Instead of a solid color fill, it will have a frosted glass effect, allowing the background to show through slightly.

  • Buttons and menus. Context menus and interactive buttons will also receive a “glass” look with subtle reflection and depth effects, making them more tactile and responsive.

Phased Update

WhatsApp developers are approaching the implementation of Liquid Glass with the utmost care. According to WABetaInfo, the update will be released in stages to ensure stability and maintain usability.

  1. The design implementation will begin with the main navigation components, primarily the bottom bar.

  2. After that, the team will polish interactive elements, buttons, and menus, paying special attention to ensuring transparency effects do not impair text readability.

  3. The full Liquid Glass interface will be released to users only after all elements have been fine-tuned and tested.

Availability

The design is currently in active development and isn’t even available to beta testers in the TestFlight program yet. It’s expected to be released to all users in a future WhatsApp update.

Conclusion

WhatsApp’s upcoming Liquid Glass interface update is an important step toward creating a more visually cohesive and modern ecosystem for iPhone users. It demonstrates WhatsApp and Apple’s commitment to tightly integrating their apps and operating systems. This rebranding will not only improve the aesthetics but also, thanks to the responsiveness of elements, may make navigation more intuitive.
