Why can't download or update WhatsApp?#

In case of a problem downloading WhatsApp, you need to check:

Let's take a closer look at these reasons below in the article.

Clear free space in your device's memory#

If WhatsApp is not installing on your smartphone due to lack of free space, try clearing cache and deleting temporary data.

On Android:#

  1. Log int Settings on your smartphone > go to Apps and notifications > Google Play Market > App information > Storage > Clear cache.
  2. Go to Clear data > confirm with the OK button.
  3. Reboot your smartphone and try to download WhatsApp again.

On iPhone#

  1. Open the WhatsApp app.
  2. Open Settings > Data and storage > Manage storage.
  3. Select unwanted chats to delete > swipe the unwanted chat with your finger to the left > select More > tap Delete Chat.

If the free space in the device memory is not enough after deleting the cache, you should try other ways:

  • Uninstall apps and files that are not in use from your smartphone.
  • Transfer the files and apps to an external SD card.
  • Clear WhatsApp cache via Settings on your smartphone > Apps and notifications > WhatsApp > Storage > Clear cache > Clear storage.
  • If you install WhatsApp app or update, you will need at least 1 GB of free storage space on your device.

If you delete photos, audio messages or videos in WhatsApp, you will no longer be able to access them.

WhatsApp is not compatible with your device#

  • WhatsApp is installed on smartphones with Android operating system version 5.0 or higher.
  • WhatsApp is installed on smartphones with iOS operating system version 12 or higher.
  • The smartphone does not support SMS and calls. This is required for confirmation.

The app is not available in your country#

If your device shows a message that WhatsApp is not available in your country, you can try to connect to the messenger in three ways:

  1. Update WhatsApp through alternative app stores, which can be stopped on the smartphone. For example, if the Google Play Market has WhatsApp blocked. Honor installs AppGallery app store in its smartphones, Samsung installs Galaxy Store and Xiaomi installs GetApps.

  2. Install the messenger in APK format via WhatsApp (only for Android smartphones).

    • To install the APK file, you need to go into Settings > click Permit installation from this source.
  3. Сhange the region in Google Play.

    • Open Google Play on your smartphone;
    • Tap the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen;
    • Go to Settings >General > Account and device settings >Country and profiles`;
    • Select the desired country.
