WhatsApp is adding reminders to help eliminate communication gaps#
February 16, 2026

New notification in WhatsApp has added another useful feature that will help you not miss important messages and respond to them promptly. This feature is called snooze notifications, which turns regular chats into a convenient reminder tool.
Contents#
What does this mean#
A new feature allows you to create reminders for individual chat messages so you can return to them later and avoid losing important information in the chat thread. A separate option appears in the message actions menu, allowing you to set a reminder for a specific time.
After selecting this option, the user is offered several standard intervals—for example, in 2 hours, in 8 hours, or in 1 day—as well as the option to specify a specific date and time. This is especially convenient when you need to tie a response or action to a meeting, call, or deadline.
After setting a reminder, a small bell icon appears on the message itself. This serves as a visual indicator that a reminder has been scheduled for this message and should be revisited later.
When the set time arrives, WhatsApp sends a separate notification showing the original message text and, if media is included, a thumbnail preview of the image, video, or GIF. The notification also indicates the specific chat in which the reminder was created, allowing you to instantly return to the conversation.
An important point: all such reminders are processed locally on the user's device. They are not visible to other chat participants and are not transmitted to WhatsApp servers. No one except the device owner will know that a message has been reminded, and scheduling replies and tasks remains completely private.
Why do you need this#
Snooze notifications solve several practical problems users face in everyday messaging:
-
Users can be busy and multitasking, easily missing important messages even from their most frequent contacts. Snooze notifications help them "recover" at the right moment, allowing them to respond calmly.
-
Work chats often involve discussing tasks, agreements, and clarifications that require a response later—after a meeting, at the end of the workday, or before a specific date. Message reminders allow you to set a specific time to return to such tasks without transferring the text to third-party apps.
-
In personal messages, this feature is useful when you need to remember to respond to an important question, clarify details of plans, or return to a personal conversation when time permits. The message doesn't get lost in the feed, but rather "reminds" you of its presence at the right moment.
The combination of preset intervals and fully customizable time makes the feature flexible, allowing users to use quick presets or schedule reminders to fit their personal lifestyle and work schedule. All triggering logic remains on the user's device, preserving privacy and eliminating unnecessary information from the chat interface.
Accessibility#
The feature has been successfully tested by a limited number of users who installed the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for Android via Google Play and will soon be available to everyone. Based on their experience and feedback, the reminder behavior and settings interface were refined before the feature was rolled out more widely..
Conclusion#
Message snooze is a logical extension of the in-message reminder concept, helping users stay on top of important tasks and stay on top of information right within the context of their conversations. Instead of breaking the flow of communication and transferring tasks to third-party apps, users can schedule a return to messages with just a few clicks.
